Meet The Team
Sofia Balderson
(she/her)
Co-founder
Sofia's mission is to serve the planet and its inhabitants, focusing on the most neglected causes.
Sofia started Impactful Animal Advocacy because she wanted to address the isolation of farmed animal advocates worldwide and improve access to key resources for impactful advocacy.
She started the IAA Newsletter in May 2022 and the IAA Slack space in February 2023 with Cameron King (now IAA’s advisor). Before starting IAA, Sofia worked at Animal Advocacy Careers and Veganuary.
Sofia has also advised multiple animal advocacy charities on their internal communications and project management.
Constance Li
(she/her)
Co-founder
Dr. Constance Li joined as a co-founder in August 2023, bringing significant entrepreneurial experience and connections within the animal advocacy movement, cultivated over two decades of involvement.
Previously, she led a successful cage-free egg campaign at Rutgers University, co-founded the volunteer-based TNR group, Northwest Philly Cat Trappers, and started The Medical Vegetarian Society at her medical school. She is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and established a telehealth company with the aim of earning to give to impactful initiatives to reduce animal suffering.
Allison Agnello
Communications Lead
Allison supports Impactful Animal Advocacy in communications.
Allison is a local community organizer for the SF Bay Area Effective Altruism group.
In her free time, she enjoys facilitating group discussions, spending time outdoors, and finding new ways to help others.
Kevin Xia
Resource Lead
Kevin supports Impactful Animal Advocacy with resource management and other projects.
He started and runs an effective animal advocacy group in Austria and has supported Effective Altruism Austria as board member since 2023. Previously, he studied Philosophy and Psychology, participated in street activism and discussion groups, and wrote summaries for Faunalytics.
Cameron King
Advisor
Cameron King has co-founded and run Animal Advocacy Africa for the last 3 years as well as participating in Charity Entrepreneurship incubation program in 2020.
Previous to this, he has run his own e-commerce business. He has also managed the UK-based vegan discord for 5 years.
Nicoll Peracha
Advisor
Nicoll is an inspiring bridge builder with a focus on impact. She holds a law degree and has over 25 years of work experience in the international non-profit sector, primarily working in management with organizations like Doctors Without Borders. Nicoll is dedicated to ending the horrors of intensive animal factory farming.
In 2022 Nicoll co-founded The Mission Motor, a charity dedicated to empowering and accelerating non-profit organizations.
Since 2016, Nicoll supported numerous animal welfare and vegan advocacy organizations in their development. She played a substantial role in the rapid growth of ProVeg Netherlands, from a volunteer organization to a professional, international food awareness organization. Nicoll is a mentor for the Kickstart for Good incubation program and part of the working group on capacity building of the Asia for Animals Coalition.
Who started this and why?
Sofia Balderson and Cameron King launched the Impactful Animal Advocacy Community Newsletter in 2022, followed by the complementary Slack group. Constance Li provided seed funding and joined the team as co-founder in 2023, helping to bring IAA's initiatives and strategic connections to the next level. These projects are part of a vision to increase cross-collaboration in the animal advocacy movement through a shared platform for idea exchange. Why Slack?
It's a scalable and efficient communication tool, widely used by professionals. Since starting this community, we've fostered many connections and several community projects, all which require tight coordination!What are our plans for the future?
While there are many potentially impactful projects that we have considered — from online events to an extended resource hub for animal advocates — we are spending the next six months excelling at our core programs.
